Abstract
The summer field crops, such as rice, cotton, maize and sugar cane,
still have a vital niche in Egyptian agricultural sector as each of them
represents In terms of the production value about 15%, 13.7%,5.6% and
5.4% respectively. In other words, these crops are totalling about 39.7% out
of the product value of the field crops and around 14.8% out of the
agricultural product value within the period between 1998 and 2000. Also, the
referenced crops have a tangible importance in terms of their area which
constitutes approximately 68.9% trom the summer crops area within the
period between 1999 and 2001. The crops mentioned above occupy a
distinguished niche in the foreign trade of agricultural commodities where
cotton and rice crops are seeded as export crops, taKing into account that
cotton takes up the first rank while rice holding the second rank in the shortlist
01 agricultural exports. On other hand, maize and sugar cane are counted as
import crops.
This study targeted recognizing the change effectness in the
components of the economic interest, for each crops, on the cash value of
the production. The study indicate<! that the cultivated area was the most
important component to affect the main product of the summer rice crop,
followed by the farm price and feddan productivity as the Qualitative weight of
effectiveness of those components amounted, in terms of order, about 43.7%
34.3% and 22% - whereas the farm price was the most important component
to effect the main product of cotton, followed by the cultivated area and the
feddan productivity as the Qualitative weight of those components hit around
183.8%, 154.3 and 70.5% respectively. In case of summer matze crop, the
productivity was the first followed by farm price and the cultivated area as the
qualitative weight for each amounted in order about 44.2%, 42.5% and
13.3%. with reference to sugar cane, the qualitative weight descendJy
amounted 62.8% , 22.2 and 15% tor each of the farm price, feddan
productivity and cultivated area respectively. Accordingly, the indicators and
results obtained on can help take the decision in drawing a proper agricultura
policy matChing with the change effectiveness of the components of the
economic interest of the mentioned crops.
