Abstract
This study alms basically at identifying some variables rei ted to
unemployment in both rural and urban areas based upon data obtained from
the Employment Research made by Center Agency of Public Mobiization
and Statistics in 1998.
Finding.of the study can be Summarized as follows:
1-Percentage of unemployment was 8.5% of the total Labour force in rural
areas while it was 7.9%in urban areas. Percentage of unempl yment
among males was 5.1 % while it was 19.9% among females. T e total
number of unemployees was145000 constitutes 8.2% of total labour
torce In Egypt in1998.
2-The findings indicated that unemployment rates were negatively re ated to
age and positively related to lellel of educaucn whether in rural or urban
areas.
3-Variables of sex, age and level of education, taken together, el(plafned
58% of the variance in the unemployment in rural areas and 51% of
variance of unemployment in urban areas.
4-The findings indicate also that all of sex , age, level of ecucanon and
geographical context (rural and urban) were related significantly to
unemployment in Egypt. These four variables explained 53% of the
variance in unemployment rates. The study was concluded with a
discussion of its major findings and a number of suggestions were
introduced.
