Abstract
The study is aiming at identifying the social impacts of the Irrigation Improvement
Project (liP) regarding the impacts of the irrigation circumstances, the communication
and co-operation among the stick-holders on irrigation source (improved channels )
,the impacts of the project for non benefited farmers regarding their awareness
,interests ,in carrying out the project activities in their fields in the future ,and finally
identifying the negative aspects of the project.
To achieve these objectives a random sample was selected including 141
farmers who benefited from the project for six agricultural seasons at least -61
farmers at Dkult improved channel ,kafr EI-sheikh, and 80 farmers at Secnteway
improved channel , Sehera Governorate, in addition 138 farmers who have not
benefited from the project -70 farmers at EI-zawia non improved channel, kafr EI-
sheikh and 68 farmer at EL-khzan non improved channel, Sehera Govemorate for
collecting the data through personal interview by using a developed and judged
questionnaire. Frequencies, percentages, Chi square, "T M and M Z M tests were
used to analyze and present the data .
The results revealed that
1.There were Significant reductions in irrigation suffering due to the project in terms
of exposure to irrigation water problems , using un favorable irrigation methods ,
conflicts on the priority of using irrigation water, and performing additional tasks to
complete the irrigation operation .
2.There were Significant differences between farmers grouped according to benefit
from the project in terms of suffering the above mentioned problems , those who
benefited from the projects suffered less compared to those who did not benefit.
3.The project lead to increases in communication and cooperation relationships
between stakeholders those increases were statistically significant.
4.There were significant differences in communication and cooperation relationships
among stakeholders between respondents grouped according to benefit from the
project in favor of those who benefited .
5.The most important negative impacts of the projects were financial overload, low
water level in improved channels, lack of maintenance for the irrigation station and
domination of farmers with larger farms .
Recommendations for future improvement the (liP) activities were included in the
study.
